WELCOME TO SINT MAARTEN/SAINT MARTIN
Part European, part Caribbean, a world away from all your worries...The smallest island in the world ever to have been partitioned between two different nations, St. Maarten/St. Martin has been shared by the French & the Dutch in a spirit of neighborly cooperation and mutual friendship for over 300 years.
St. Martin / St. Maarten seduces you with lush green hills, historic buildings and houses, sun-kissed beaches, world-class dining, duty-free shopping, neon-studded casinos and clubs comparable with that of Las Vegas, … You’ll find all this and more in just 37 square miles of tropical island paradise. Half Dutch, half French, St. Martin / St. Maarten offers a potpourri of charm and culture, not to mention the vacation of a lifetime!!!
Here are a few must sees on the island
FRENCH SIDE:
- Marigot: The capital of St. Martin. Visit the Fort St. Louis built in 1767 for great views of the island.
- Anguilla: This is best if you can plan it for a day-trip. Take a ferry from Marigot to Anguilla and you will visit spectacular beaches, you may even spot some A-list celebs.
- Baie Rouge: A great family beach just outside of Marigot with lots of splashing and snorkeling in the gentle Caribbean waters.
DUTCH SIDE:
- Phillipsburg: Great duty-free shopping along Front Street or visit the great Salt Pond located on the slower pace side of town.
- Dawn Beach & Great Bay Beach: There are reefs offshore which calm the Atlantic Ocean waters. Looking for more adventure, try every water sport under the sun, even the new kite-surfing.
- Loterie Farm: This private nature reserve at the food of Paradise Peak is a 150-acre former sugar plantation that provides a peek at St. Martin’s lush interior.
GOLF:
The one and only golf course, designed by Joseph Lee, is presently the only one on the whole island. It's a pretty decent golf course for both high- and low handicappers. This 18-hole course is located at the Mullet Bay Resort in Dutch St. Maarten. The layout is surrounded by water and palm trees and situated between the Simpson Bay Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. Call the pro shop before 4:00 pm to schedule tee times and/or to get more information: (599)545-2801. The club often organizes national and international tournaments.
